The Ahmadi Misdemeanor Court presided over by Judge Mohammed Talal Al-Hajri sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to three months imprisonment with hard labor and immediate enforcement after convicting him of driving with negligence and recklessness. Court documents showed the motorist was clocked at 190 kilometers per hour on a public road. The ruling came as authorities continue campaigns to deter dangerous driving behaviors that endanger the public.

In its reasoning the court emphasized that compliance with traffic rules goes beyond regulatory texts to safeguarding lives and shared public spaces. “The public road is a shared right and whoever uses it in a manner that deviates from the requirements of caution and responsibility does not expose himself alone to danger but puts the lives of others and their property at the mercy of consequences that may be difficult to remedy” the court stated. It added that driving constitutes a responsibility lives cannot be restored and the law must deter those not restrained by conscience.

Records presented during the trial revealed the defendant had accumulated 561 previous traffic violations. Those infractions carried total fines exceeding 25 000 Kuwaiti dinars. The scale of the history underscored a pattern of repeated disregard for road regulations according to the court’s assessment.

The case surfaces against a backdrop of persistent speeding problems on Kuwaiti roads. The General Directorate of Traffic recorded 1 118 644 traffic violations between April and August 2026 with speeding topping the list at 415 806 cases. In 2024 the same directorate logged 1 926 320 speeding violations that contributed to 65 991 accidents and 284 deaths according to Ministry of Interior figures.

Under amendments to the traffic law reckless or negligent driving can carry imprisonment of one to three years and fines between 600 and 1 000 dinars or one of those penalties the updated legislation states. The three-month term issued in this verdict falls within the framework for certain careless driving offenses that allow up to three months in prison. Judicial officials have applied such sentences to emphasize personal accountability amid repeated violations.

A revamped traffic law implemented in 2025 has produced measurable gains in safety metrics. The ministry reported a 55 percent reduction in road deaths after the legislation took effect alongside an 83 percent drop in speeding offenses. Officials attributed the improvements to higher fines enhanced camera enforcement and sustained awareness initiatives that together reduced daily accidents from previous averages.
