Al-Seyassah daily reported that Kuwait’s Criminal Court issued its ruling on July 9 against three Egyptian nationals who stood accused in a complex financial case. The panel led by Judge Abdulwahab Al-Muaili and assisted by Judges Waqyan Al-Waqyan and Mohammad Issa determined the defendants had engaged in systematic embezzlement. The court acted after receiving a judicial request from Egypt where the men were apprehended.

The offenses occurred between 2002 and 2006 when the individuals diverted resources from the Patients Aid Fund and an associated charitable committee according to the Al-Seyassah daily report. They then laundered the proceeds. Kuwaiti judicial authorities pursued the matter following the initial discoveries.

Egyptian authorities apprehended the suspects and filed suit in coordination with Kuwaiti requests Al-Seyassah daily reported. The trio had received prison sentences and fines equal to three times the embezzled amount in Egypt prior to the Kuwait proceedings. The additional Kuwaiti penalties address the laundering component that occurred within the emirate’s jurisdiction.

An Egyptian criminal court sentenced two men to 10 years in prison in October 2025 for stealing 15 million Egyptian pounds from the account of a Kuwaiti sheikh Middle East Monitor reported at the time. The prosecution in that matter described a scheme involving false investment certificates and unauthorized withdrawals. The ruling added to examples of cross-border financial crime enforcement between the two countries.

The Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of four individuals in June 2026 who had been convicted of embezzling public funds that caused $180 million in damage. Those fugitives had attempted to evade capture before security forces located them. The operation formed part of wider measures to execute outstanding financial crime judgments.

Court records placed the fine at KD 3,463,000 for the three Egyptians in the Patients Aid Fund matter. The sentences also mandate seven years of imprisonment for each defendant. Authorities have not disclosed further details on asset recovery in the statement carried by Al-Seyassah daily.
