The Kuwait Fire Force carried out an inspection campaign in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area of the Capital Governorate on Monday evening. The operation, conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Environment Public Authority, targeted buildings and facilities that breached fire safety and prevention regulations. In a statement distributed by KUNA, the force said measures including administrative closures and warnings were applied only after the establishments failed to satisfy requirements set by all participating agencies.
This campaign forms part of sustained joint efforts by Kuwaiti authorities to monitor compliance with safety standards across industrial zones. Kuwait Times reported that a comparable drive in December 2025 resulted in administrative closures and warnings for 131 establishments in Shuwaikh and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. That earlier action involved additional partners such as the Public Authority for Industry and Kuwait Municipality, underscoring a pattern of multi-agency coordination on enforcement.
Times Kuwait noted a further campaign in August 2025 that shut down 61 facilities and warned 97 others in Shuwaikh Industrial Area 2 for similar non-compliance. Such repeated operations in the same district reflect the density of industrial, commercial and storage sites that require regular oversight. The authorities have repeatedly stated that the goal is to protect lives, property and public safety by addressing violations before they lead to incidents.
The Kuwait Fire Force has highlighted typical shortcomings uncovered in these sweeps, including missing or non-functional fire alarms, obstructed emergency exits and insufficient firefighting equipment. Operators receive formal notice to correct deficiencies within a set period or face escalated penalties that can include full closure. The statement stressed that all actions remain administrative and preventive in nature while urging facility owners to maintain full adherence to approved standards.
This latest round arrives against the backdrop of heightened national attention to industrial safety that intensified after the June 2024 Mangaf fire, which Kuwait’s civil defence authority said killed at least 49 workers and triggered wider regulatory reviews. The civil defence authority’s figures from that incident prompted broader clampdowns on unlicensed or non-compliant sites throughout the country. Officials have indicated that inspection campaigns will persist in high-risk areas to reinforce regulatory compliance and reduce potential hazards.
Kuwait Times reported that the Kuwait Fire Force has conducted multiple similar operations in Shuwaikh over the past year, each yielding dozens of warnings or closures. The consistency of these figures points to ongoing challenges in maintaining standards across the industrial sector. The force has called on business operators to review their safety systems proactively, train staff in emergency procedures and ensure regular maintenance to avoid future interventions.
