Senior officials from Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior received Pakistani Ambassador Dr. Zafar Iqbal on July 1 as part of ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral security coordination. Undersecretary Major General Abdulwahab Ahmed Al-Wuhaib led the Kuwaiti side alongside Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Supporting Security Services Brigadier General Fawaz Al-Roumi and other security personnel. Discussions centered on ways to enhance cooperation in law enforcement, according to a summary of the meeting released by the ministry. The two sides examined channels for greater information sharing and joint initiatives aimed at addressing common challenges.

Al-Wuhaib emphasized the longstanding relations between Kuwait and Pakistan during the session, which built on previous engagements between the countries’ security establishments. Topics included expanded training and capacity-building programs as well as the exchange of professional expertise in institutional development. The ministry’s account of the meeting highlighted these areas as priorities for future collaboration to support regional stability. Officials also touched on practical mechanisms to improve day-to-day coordination between their respective agencies.

Matters concerning the Pakistani community in Kuwait figured prominently in the talks, with both sides agreeing to strengthen communication between relevant authorities. Public Authority for Civil Information figures place Kuwait’s expatriate population at roughly 3.3 million, of whom Al Jazeera reporting from March 2026 identified approximately 339,000 as Pakistani nationals. This community represents one of the larger foreign groups contributing to the country’s workforce across multiple sectors. The discussion explored avenues to facilitate better support and address any emerging issues affecting community members.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of a defense cooperation agreement the two countries signed in June 2023, as reported at the time by Kuwait Times. That pact laid groundwork for expanded military ties, including training and operational coordination that have continued to evolve. Kuwait has historically drawn on Pakistani expertise for certain specialized security roles, a practice noted in U.S. Congressional Research Service analyses of Gulf partnerships. Such frameworks have helped shape the current focus on expertise exchange and joint capacity building.

Al-Wuhaib affirmed the Interior Ministry’s commitment to further developing these security ties with Pakistan. He stated that expanded cooperation would aid joint efforts to maintain security and stability across the region. The undersecretary’s remarks underscored the value placed on sustained dialogue at the operational level between the two countries’ interior and defense bodies.

For his part, Ambassador Zafar Iqbal expressed appreciation for the ministry’s ongoing support to the Pakistani Embassy and its community in Kuwait. He praised the close relations between the two countries and reiterated Pakistan’s interest in broadening cooperation across security domains. Iqbal’s comments aligned with earlier statements from the embassy highlighting Kuwait’s role as a key partner in the Gulf. The ambassador’s participation reflected the embassy’s active engagement on both diplomatic and community-related files.
