The General Directorate of Traffic Police said its June 14-20 2026 campaigns across governorates recorded 746 traffic violations, 15 wanted arrests and 771 humanitarian services. The directorate reported on June 24 that operations also included six residency apprehensions, 10 vehicle seizures, three ID-less detentions, eight narcotics referrals and one unnatural-state detention.
The directorate’s tally further listed five vehicles impounded for traffic violations, 126 traffic accident reports handled and 1,402 security missions executed over the seven days. These figures reflect the scope of the intensive field campaigns that targeted multiple aspects of public safety and traffic compliance. According to a study that examined Ministry of Interior citation data, Kuwait issued a total of 24.2 million traffic violations from 2011 to 2015 with the yearly count climbing from 4 million in 2011 to 6.5 million in 2015. Indirect citations issued through surveillance methods accounted for 70.4 percent of the total, it added.
The same study placed total road traffic fatalities for the five-year span at 2,282, averaging roughly 450 deaths annually with a slightly decreasing trend. Non-Kuwaitis suffered four times as many road traffic deaths as Kuwaitis, the data showed. Public Authority for Civil Information figures indicate expatriates comprise more than two-thirds of Kuwait’s population, a demographic reality that amplifies the importance of traffic enforcement for all road users.
Ministry of Interior figures from the first half of 2025 showed traffic offenses declining 16 percent year-on-year while accidents fell 45 percent and road deaths dropped 34 percent. Colonel Fahad Al-Issa, head of the traffic awareness department, credited the improvements to the implementation of stringent laws and heightened monitoring. The official made the remarks as part of an update on the impact of recent policy changes.
A separate weeklong campaign ending May 31 2026 saw nearly 19,938 violations issued by traffic teams operating across the governorates, according to directorate updates. The variation in citation volumes between campaigns illustrates how enforcement intensity and focus areas can influence outcomes.
