First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah received Lebanon’s Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad Al-Hajjar in Kuwait City on Monday for discussions centered on strengthening security links. The talks occurred during an official visit by the Lebanese delegation and included the participation of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Abdulwahab Al-Wuhaib. Officials from both sides examined topics of common interest with an eye toward practical improvements in how their agencies interact on a regular basis.
The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that the ministers highlighted the value of sustained coordination and consultation to refine cooperation mechanisms while advancing the sharing of specialized knowledge across relevant institutions in each country. The two sides also touched on ways to broaden the scope of their joint efforts beyond current arrangements.
Both ministers reviewed the close brotherly relations that have long connected Kuwait and Lebanon according to the same statement. This encounter follows a pattern of high-level contacts that have intensified in recent years amid shifting regional conditions. Hajjar later addressed reporters and praised the host country’s security infrastructure while outlining Lebanon’s position on mutual threats.
The Lebanese minister stated that his country would not allow its territory to serve as a base for actions endangering Kuwait or any GCC member according to a Kuwait Times report on the visit. “If Kuwait provides us with information, requests or the names of individuals involved in activities that threaten its security, Lebanon is fully prepared to cooperate,” Hajjar said. He added that existing arrangements already feature regular intelligence exchanges and joint operations that have delivered concrete results against drug trafficking networks.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier welcomed a US-brokered ceasefire in Lebanon and voiced backing for steps that reinforce state control while confining arms to official institutions. The MFA statements emphasized Kuwait’s consistent support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity in line with its longstanding diplomatic stance. The latest interior ministry meeting adds a security layer to these broader commitments by focusing on operational coordination.
Similar engagements in prior months have addressed shared concerns such as organized crime and terrorism with both governments seeking to formalize information flows and training programs. Kuwait has extended various forms of assistance to Lebanon during past crises which has helped lay groundwork for the current security dialogue. The discussions on Monday are expected to produce updated protocols that build directly on these foundations.
