The inspection focused on ensuring all elements align with the terminal project’s overall timeline and operational needs once the facility enters service.
According to the Ministry of Public Works Al-Mashaan directed contractors to maintain the highest quality and safety standards throughout execution while expediting activities to meet approved completion dates. The minister noted the infrastructure’s critical role in managing expected large traffic flows tied to the terminal’s significance as a major aviation gateway. Updates from the tour indicated steady advancement across the various connecting elements under active oversight.
Limak Construction reported that the Terminal 2 building itself stood at 84.19 percent physical completion at the end of 2025 with structural facade and airtightness works finished while architectural finishing and systems testing continue. The company targets full handover during 2026 following adjustments to the original schedule. This terminal forms the centerpiece of a broader airport redevelopment program that ENR data values at $5.8 billion and which includes airfield reconfigurations taxiways and supporting service roads.
The access routes fall under a dedicated contract for development and maintenance of roads and interchanges along Magwa Road that link directly to the new terminal area. A separate airport-to-Salmiya connection opened earlier in June easing pressure on existing corridors according to ministry announcements. Central Statistical Bureau figures have previously shown rising passenger numbers at the current airport underlining the need for expanded capacity that the combined terminal and road works aim to deliver.
Ministry of Public Works statements place the full airport scheme within wider national infrastructure efforts that also encompass rail links ports and extensive road maintenance. Last year’s ministry briefing reported paving of 9.5 million square meters of internal roads and 5.5 million square meters of highways under multiple contracts. These parallel initiatives support the goal of transforming Kuwait into a regional aviation and logistics hub as outlined in official development plans.
Al-Mashaan’s latest tour continues a series of inspections she has led since assuming office with earlier visits covering terminal interiors and related facilities. The Public Works portfolio includes coordination with other agencies on the overlapping packages that encompass parking service buildings and airfield upgrades. Project data indicate the completed network will integrate new and existing operations to accommodate future demand growth without disruption.
