He stressed the existing strength of Kuwaiti-Tajik relations while noting that Kuwait seeks to intensify collaboration across diverse fields where the two sides already hold similar outlooks.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, the two countries established diplomatic relations on March 31, 1995. Momentum has built steadily in recent times, including the inauguration of Kuwait’s first resident embassy in Dushanbe in July 2026 and the naming of Al-Omairi as the inaugural resident ambassador. These moves followed high-level visits and discussions meant to widen political, economic, consular and cultural exchanges between the nations.
Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon conducted a state visit to Kuwait in November 2024 that produced eight cooperation pacts in areas ranging from security and culture to education, energy and tourism, as documented in reports from regional outlets. The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development has supplied roughly 200 million dollars for projects in Tajikistan, among them a 100-million-dollar loan extended in December 2024 toward construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant, according to records from the joint intergovernmental commission. Such support has reinforced Kuwait’s contribution to Tajikistan’s infrastructure and energy priorities over time.
United Nations COMTRADE data places Kuwait’s imports from Tajikistan at just over 43,000 dollars in 2024, consisting chiefly of apparel and edible fruits and signaling considerable room for trade growth. The fourth session of the Kuwaiti-Tajik joint intergovernmental commission, held in Kuwait in February 2025, resulted in a draft roadmap for expanded activity in commerce, investment and tourism alongside talks on additional direct flights and a possible joint airline. The commission also weighed a proposal to form a shared investment fund targeting sectors such as green energy, aviation infrastructure, industry and agriculture.
Al-Omairi’s appearance at the anniversary conference reflects Tajikistan’s long-standing emphasis on environmental issues, including global initiatives on water resources and glacier preservation advanced by President Rahmon. The ambassador’s comments underscored overlapping positions on sustainable development and international cooperation that could open avenues for joint programs. Jazeera Airways began direct flights linking Kuwait and Dushanbe in December 2022 and has since completed nearly 600 flights while carrying more than 87,000 passengers, the carrier stated during a recent meeting with Tajikistan’s ambassador to Kuwait. This air link has helped foster greater business contacts and people-to-people exchanges between the societies. Ongoing conversations focus on enlarging tourism, cultural initiatives and educational ties as elements of the broadening bilateral relationship.
