The Cabinet tasked competent authorities with implementing reforms aimed at accelerating tender processes and ensuring greater transparency across government procurement, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sherida Abdullah Al-Maousharji said in the post-meeting statement. The directive forms part of ongoing efforts to modernize administrative procedures at a time when major infrastructure projects require efficient execution. Al-Maousharji noted that the changes would be rolled out in coordination with relevant ministries to support economic priorities.

The Cabinet reviewed a briefing from the Foreign Minister on escalating regional tensions that have targeted maritime routes, the statement indicated. It condemned Iranian actions including an attack on the Kuwaiti tanker Kifan in the Strait of Hormuz that injured crew members, according to the briefing delivered to ministers. The Foreign Ministry had summoned the Iranian ambassador to deliver a formal protest note over the incident, which the Cabinet described as a violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty and international law.

In parallel, the Cabinet denounced repeated Houthi militia attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, including a strike on a Saudi-owned ship, the statement said. These actions constitute clear breaches of international norms and pose direct risks to global shipping and energy supplies, ministers agreed. The Cabinet expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and backed all steps Riyadh takes to defend its security and interests.

Kuwait’s position echoes broader GCC concerns over freedom of navigation, as outlined in related statements by member states in recent months, the briefing to the Cabinet noted. UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which condemned threats to traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, received support from 136 countries, according to remarks by Kuwait’s UN representative in follow-up sessions. The Cabinet called for immediate cessation of all such escalatory actions and respect for established maritime principles.

The weekly session at Bayan Palace also covered messages sent to the Amir from leaders of friendly nations regarding enhanced bilateral ties, Al-Maousharji reported. Ministers received updates on diplomatic coordination addressing shared regional challenges. The Cabinet instructed follow-up on both the tender reforms and maritime security file in subsequent meetings.
