The Kuwait-based coach has used a new sports interview to make the case for girls taking up boxing, as women also gain recognition among the sport’s local referees.

Kuwait-based boxing coach Shaikha Al-Tukhaim is challenging the idea that the sport belongs only to men, using a newly published interview to put girls’ participation at the centre of the conversation.

In a clip shared by Economic Sports on October 13, Al-Tukhaim said boxing was a good sport for girls and was not exclusive to men. The segment was published jointly with her Instagram account, @beastboxer.kwt, where she presents her work across boxing, mobility and fitness.

Her comments arrive during the opening weeks of Kuwait’s 2026–27 boxing season. Earlier this month, women’s participation as referees at a local junior championship drew praise from the Kuwait Boxing Federation’s president, giving the discussion a practical local context beyond social-media encouragement.

A new interview puts girls in the picture

The Economic Sports interview clip focuses on a straightforward point: girls have a place in boxing. The focus is on participation: who sees themselves as a potential boxer and who assumes the sport is intended for someone else.

The outlet’s introduction to the interview identifies Al-Tukhaim as a boxing and mobility coach and says the conversation covers the sport and her reasons for choosing it. Another published segment is framed around that personal decision.

Together, the clips bring a coach’s perspective into a conversation often dominated by bouts, medals and professional fighters. The emphasis is on taking up the sport in the first place, with Al-Tukhaim addressing girls directly through the interview’s central message.

Her own public profile describes a coaching practice that includes training programmes, bootcamps and online coaching. That mix places boxing within her broader coaching work, alongside physical preparation and mobility.

A recent appearance with UFC Gym Kuwait

Al-Tukhaim has also appeared in a recent joint Instagram reel with UFC Gym Kuwait, inviting people in Kuwait City to visit the gym. The post supplies a separate, current example of her public-facing work around fitness.

The gym collaboration and the interview show two sides of her recent public work: appearing in fitness content and discussing her chosen sport. In the interview, the emphasis shifts from the training venue to the people who might consider entering one.

For readers encountering her through @beastboxer.kwt, that is the central sporting question she raises: whether girls see boxing as an activity open to them.

Women are also taking roles around the ring

There is a recent development within organised Kuwaiti boxing that makes that question timely. At the First Junior Boxing Championship in Sabah Al-Salem, women participated as referees, according to a KUNA report carried by Kuwait Times on October 1.

Federation president Abdullah Khaled Al-Otaibi welcomed their involvement and called for support and opportunities for female referees in local and international competitions. Al-Sulaibikhat won the championship, ahead of Al-Nasr and Al-Qadisiya.

The referees’ involvement is a separate development from Al-Tukhaim’s coaching, but both put women visibly within the sport. One concerns the officials entrusted with overseeing competition; the other concerns a coach speaking about who should feel able to take part.

Al-Tukhaim’s latest interview brings the discussion back to the individual who has yet to enter a boxing gym. Her message is direct: being a girl should not, in itself, put the sport out of reach.
