Al-Mershad told KUNA that the medals added to Kuwait’s record in the sport. In comments to the agency the coach noted that international tournaments deliver valuable experience that helps athletes sharpen the skills required to reach the podium in subsequent competitions.

Earlier KUNA reports from prior editions of the Qatar International Taekwondo Championship document a pattern of consistent Kuwaiti medal hauls. The agency detailed that Kuwait secured 10 medals including three golds at the 2024 tournament held in the same venue. KUNA dispatches from 2025 indicated that the national side captured at least two bronze medals in the junior and youth divisions during that year’s edition.
Al-Mershad told KUNA that repeated exposure to such high-level events builds the foundation for long-term progress within the junior program. The coach expressed gratitude for the organization and hospitality extended by the Qatari hosts according to the news agency. KUNA noted that the latest bronzes arrived as the Kuwait Taekwondo Federation maintains its focus on developing talent capable of competing against expanded international fields.
The news agency indicated that the junior category remains a central element of the annual championship which has grown in scale since its early editions. KUNA figures from previous years show participant numbers rising steadily with the 2024 event attracting 1,440 athletes from 40 countries. The agency reported that the 2026 edition continues to serve as a key platform for regional and global taekwondo development.
