The airline restarted services between Kozhikode and Salalah in Oman on July 2, according to a report in Times Kuwait. Kozhikode-Kuwait operations resumed the following day while Bengaluru-Kuwait flights returned on July 4, the publication added. Frequencies on all three routes will increase gradually in response to passenger demand, the carrier stated.
Air India Express now operates to two airports in Oman, Muscat and Salalah, Gulf News reported. The publication noted that the airline connects to 13 destinations across Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. It operates around 780 weekly flights between India and the region while linking 18 Indian cities directly, Gulf News figures show.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs placed the overseas Indian population in Kuwait at 1.036 million as of January 2026. Ministry data identifies Indians as the largest expatriate community in the country, representing more than 20 percent of the total population. Many of these residents originate from Kerala and Karnataka and use the restored routes for family visits and work-related travel.
Regional airspace restrictions had required suspension or adjustment of several services in recent weeks, Air India Express explained in its operational update. The phased restoration became possible after operating conditions improved across West Asia, the carrier added. Services to destinations in the United Arab Emirates had already resumed in April under the same recovery plan.
The full network return aligns with rising summer travel volumes on the India-Gulf corridor, according to Gulf News. The airline’s schedule now supports both business connections and leisure travel to key hubs in Kuwait and Oman, the report indicated. Additional capacity will help accommodate demand from the large Indian workforce employed across the Gulf states.
