Al Jahra Club president Yousef Karim has placed the potential return of the senior handball team at the top of the board’s agenda. The club has begun a thorough review that encompasses all technical, administrative and financial aspects required to support a successful reintroduction to competitive play. Karim noted that any decision would follow only after the completion of this evaluation to guarantee viability, a process that reflects the club’s methodical approach to revival efforts.

“Handball has always been an important sport at Al Jahra,” he said. “Its return would benefit not only the club but also Kuwaiti handball, especially with the game’s remarkable development in recent years and the growing competitiveness of the domestic league.” The president acknowledged the difficulties posed by the current level of opposition in the league and the need for strategic preparation.

Building a squad that can contend effectively from its first season remains the central aim according to Karim. Plans include the acquisition of skilled players alongside a focus on developing promising young athletes who would be integrated with veteran performers. This combination is intended to produce a well-rounded unit prepared for the demands of top-tier competition.

The board has no intention of accelerating the timeline before every element receives proper scrutiny, Karim explained. Instead the objective centers on creating a durable program that delivers ongoing results instead of temporary involvement. A structured long-term plan will direct the project toward reestablishing the club’s traditional strength in handball.

Cooperation with the technical and administrative teams will underpin the provision of necessary resources and conditions for success, the president stated. Karim expressed hope that initial actions toward Premier League participation would occur before long, thereby enhancing the depth of Kuwait’s premier handball contests. According to historical records maintained by the Kuwait Handball Association the national league commenced in 1966 and has grown into one of the region’s more established competitions.

Kuwait SC has captured 15 league championships including the past 12 titles in succession, Kuwait Times reported when the 58th edition launched in September 2025. This sustained supremacy illustrates the intensity Al Jahra would encounter upon any return. In a sign of the rising caliber of Kuwaiti handball, newcomer Burgan secured the 2026 Asian Men’s Club League title with a dramatic extra-time victory, the International Handball Federation reported in its June tournament summary.
