Burgan announced that its squad left Kuwait at 6:30 p.m. local time on August 30 for the high-altitude camp in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the team will engage in an intensive program and play four friendly matches against local opponents. The club stated that head coach Yaqoub Al-Mousawi will lead efforts to sharpen the squad’s technical and physical condition so players reach peak form for the tournament that runs from September 25 to October 1 in the Egyptian capital. The camp represents the final major preparation block before Burgan returns home on September 20 and then flies to Cairo three days later.

According to the club, the delegation includes chairman Anwar Al-Otaibi, vice chairman Mohammed Nasser, handball director Abdulaziz Najeeb, fitness coach Saud Al-Sammak, assistant coach Nasser Bukhadra, performance analyst Faisal Al-Nassar, the full roster of players and support staff. The traveling party also features foreign professionals Angel Hernandez and Yasuhiro, whose experience is expected to bolster the side in what the club described as a demanding global event. Burgan officials noted that the itinerary allows sufficient recovery time between the camp and the championship.

The club secured qualification by winning the Asian Handball Clubs Championship title for the first time last month, defeating Saudi Arabia’s Al-Khaleej in the final to claim the continental crown. Burgan followed that success by signing six new domestic players to deepen its roster for the world stage, the club reported. Those additions include Abdullah Al-Attiyah from Al-Qadsia plus Hussein Salman, Bandar Al-Shammari, Mohammed Al-Bahr, Hassan Rajab and Yousef Rajab from Al-Salmiya.

The International Handball Federation organises the 19th edition of the Men’s Club World Championship in Cairo, bringing together the top club sides from each confederation along with host representatives. A preliminary round will settle the final berths in the two groups before main-round matches begin on September 25. Burgan will compete in the event for the first time after its breakthrough Asian success.

Burgan was drawn into Group B alongside German club Füchse Berlin, Egyptian hosts Al Ahly and the winner of the preliminary tie between Hungary’s Veszprém and Australia’s Sydney University, the club said. Group A consists of Spain’s Barcelona, Morocco’s Montada Derb Sultan, Brazil’s Pinheiros and the winner between Egypt’s Zamalek and the United States representative from Los Angeles. The tournament concludes on October 1 with classification matches that will determine final placings.

The Asian title victory marked a historic milestone for Kuwaiti handball, as Burgan joined a select group of clubs from the country that have claimed continental honours in recent decades. Club officials have emphasised building a competitive blend of local talent and experienced overseas players to handle the elevated level of opposition. The Bosnia camp is intended to refine tactical cohesion and fitness under match-like conditions against European opposition.
