Burgan SC will send its senior handball squad to North Macedonia for a training camp running from August 25 to September 20 as the Kuwaiti club readies for its first appearance at the IHF Men’s Club World Championship. The camp focuses on physical conditioning and technical refinement ahead of the tournament scheduled for September 24 to October 1 in Cairo. According to club planning detailed in Kuwaiti sports reports, the team will return briefly to Kuwait before traveling to Egypt for the global event.
The International Handball Federation lists Burgan SC among the 16 participating clubs after the Kuwaiti side claimed the 2026 Asian Men’s Club League Handball Championship title with a dramatic final victory over Saudi Arabia’s Khaleej Club. An Asian Handball Federation assessment placed that win as direct qualification for the world championship, marking Burgan as the fourth Kuwaiti club to reach the competition following previous entries by Al-Salmiya, Al-Qadsiya and Al-Kuwait. IHF data confirms the tournament will feature top sides from all confederations at venues in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital.
Burgan has bolstered its roster with six new signings to complement the core group that delivered the Asian crown. The additions include Abdullah Al-Attiyah from Al-Qadsiya along with Hussein Salman, Bandar Al-Shammari, Mohammed Al-Bahr, Hassan Rajab and Yousef Rajab from Al-Salmiya. Club officials have assigned national team coach Yaqoub Al-Mousawi to lead the squad through the North Macedonia preparations and into the championship matches.
Group B at the IHF event will pit Burgan against Germany’s Füchse Berlin, Egypt’s Al Ahly and the winner of a preliminary matchup between Hungary’s Veszprém and Australia’s Sydney University Handball Club. The Asian Handball Federation noted that Burgan’s path reflects growing competitiveness from the Asian confederation at the club level. Tournament organizers have set the opening matches for September 25 in the New Capital Sports Hall.
Kuwaiti clubs have participated in prior editions of the IHF Club World Championship without securing the title, according to historical records maintained by the world governing body. Burgan’s preparation in North Macedonia aligns with a regional trend of European training stints for Gulf teams seeking higher-intensity match practice. The club aims to build on its recent Asian success by competing against established European and African powerhouses during the eight-day championship.
The 19th edition marks an expansion in format that includes debutants from multiple continents, an IHF overview stated. Burgan will open its campaign against Füchse Berlin before facing the other Group B opponents in a round-robin stage that feeds into classification matches. Club administrators have framed the North Macedonia camp as essential for adapting to the elevated pace expected at the Cairo tournament.
