The Sports Activities Department at Kuwait University organized a workshop titled Professionalism in University Sports Media on July 23, 2026, featuring a lecture by Dr. Sattam Al-Sahli. As Director of Media at the Kuwait Football Association, Al-Sahli addressed the media’s role in bolstering university-level athletics while outlining best practices for communicating with outlets and managing crises during sporting events. The session also stressed the need for elevated professional standards in how university competitions are administered and reported.
A dedicated sports photography exhibition accompanied the workshop and displayed images captured by Abdulrahman Al-Ali, a photographer with the Kuwait Football Association. University representatives used the gathering to honor Al-Sahli for his sustained contributions to the sector. Acting Director of Sports Activities Dr. Tariq Dashti and Acting Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Salem Al-Shammari played central roles in coordinating the program.
Al-Sahli thanked Kuwait University at the close of the event for providing a venue to share both theoretical insights and hands-on expertise. He highlighted how such workshops build core competencies among those entering the field. The media director further noted that these platforms nurture local talent and raise the standard of sports coverage overall.
Such initiatives support Kuwait University’s broader emphasis on academic excellence paired with practical skill development, Al-Sahli stated. His remarks drew on years of experience shaping sports media policies at both national and regional levels. The Kuwait News Agency has previously documented his leadership in advancing journalism standards across Asia since his uncontested election as president of the Asian Sports Press Union in 2017.
Al-Sahli currently heads the Kuwait Sports Media Committee, a position that included participation in the Asian Sports Press Federation’s general assembly in Doha in December 2025, according to a Kuwait Times report. That ongoing engagement has positioned him to influence training programs for young reporters throughout the Gulf and beyond. The university workshop therefore forms one element within a longer trajectory of efforts to professionalize sports journalism in Kuwait.
