The Ministry of Public Works has closed the middle and slow lanes on the Sixth Ring Road for vehicles traveling from Al Maseela toward Al Subbiya while completely shutting the exit leading to Kuwait City and the exit to Al Mutlaa. The exit from Al Mutlaa Road toward Al Subbiya has also been fully closed under the measures that took effect on November 1. The ministry issued the details through its official statements and called on drivers to plan routes accordingly until the restrictions end on December 31. Coordination with the General Traffic Department has shaped the scope and timing of the closures to support ongoing highway upgrades.
Motorists must adhere to directional signs and select detour paths to limit congestion during the two month window. The ministry highlighted the importance of vigilance to protect safety on adjacent roads while crews perform the necessary repairs. These closures form one element of the ministry’s wider strategy to modernize key segments of the national road network that serve expanding residential and commercial zones.
Separate partial closures on Jahra Road toward Kuwait City began November 3 and will persist until December 18. The restrictions cover the right shoulder as well as the slow and middle lanes near Amghara and block the exit at intersection 35 together with hospital access points while the two left lanes stay open. The ministry reported that the works target surface and structural improvements in that corridor to align with standards applied across other major routes.
The Ministry of Public Works completed 109 of 121 root maintenance orders in Mubarak Al Kabeer governorate for a completion rate of 90 percent according to its latest progress update. In October the ministry carried out similar works on 13 primary roads and 42 residential areas spread across all six governorates with the goal of raising overall network efficiency. Such projects typically address asphalt conditions drainage systems pavement markings and related infrastructure elements to reduce long term deterioration.
Drivers navigating northern routes should anticipate added travel times and consult updated maps before departure especially during morning and evening peaks. The General Traffic Department has positioned personnel at key junctions to direct traffic and respond to incidents arising from the rerouting. The joint operation between the ministry and traffic officials seeks to finish the scheduled repairs without unnecessary extensions.
Kuwait’s road maintenance program has expanded to cover more arterial highways each year as vehicle numbers and urban development increase demand on the system. The current Sixth Ring Road segment continues a pattern of phased interventions the ministry has applied to prevent larger disruptions in the future. Officials expect full lane availability to resume once the December 31 deadline passes and final inspections conclude.
