The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition conducted an inspection campaign in Kuwait’s Capital Governorate that led to the immediate closure of one food facility and the destruction of 204 kilograms of products deemed unfit for human consumption. According to the authority, inspectors found the establishment offering spoiled food whose natural characteristics had changed in color, odor and appearance. The operation, carried out with the Ministry of Interior’s Capital Governorate Security Directorate, also identified instances of frozen meat being thawed and sold as fresh. This combination of breaches prompted authorities to issue multiple violation reports on the spot.
The authority’s statement detailed further infractions that included failures to meet general hygiene requirements, operating without a valid health licence and employing workers lacking required medical certificates. All 204 kilograms of the seized unsafe food were destroyed in accordance with standard regulatory procedures to prevent any risk to consumers. The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition noted that 10 violation reports were filed during the campaign as teams examined compliance across the targeted site.
Public Authority for Food and Nutrition data from earlier September campaigns in the same governorate recorded the destruction of 144 kilograms of unfit food materials under comparable circumstances. In a separate operation reported in September, the authority eliminated more than 108,000 kilograms of adulterated and spoiled items across multiple locations. These figures illustrate the scale of ongoing inspection efforts that the authority has maintained throughout 2026 to address recurring food safety issues.
The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition coordinates such campaigns with relevant ministries to enforce licensing, hygiene and worker health standards across Kuwait’s food sector. Similar actions in March led to the closure of a restaurant and fish market where 127 kilograms of meat of unknown origin were confiscated and destroyed, according to authority records. Legal referrals were made in each case to ensure accountability for the documented violations.
Inspectors continue to focus on both licensed outlets and unlicensed operations as part of the authority’s regular monitoring schedule. The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has previously reported destroying 36,500 kilograms of unfit food during intensified checks in one governorate over a two-month period. Such enforcement activity forms a consistent element of the authority’s work to safeguard public health in local markets.
