Al Jassam took the opportunity to express appreciation to the Public Authority for Sport in Kuwait and Kuwait Cricket Board President Haider Farman for their leadership and ongoing support of the initiative. The captains of the four competing teams then participated in a ceremonial cake cutting before posing for photographs with the trophy. Meet Bhavsar of Failaka Guardians, Mohamed Aslam of Boubyan Warriors, Yasin Patel of Kuwait Falcons and Ali Zaheer of Pearl Strikers joined the dignitaries for the proceedings, the organizers reported.
The tournament itself began on September 17 with a double-header at Sulaibiya Cricket Ground, where Boubyan Warriors faced Failaka Guardians and Kuwait Falcons met Pearl Strikers, the official DP World ILT20 schedule shows. A round-robin stage continues through September 24 before position matches and the final on September 25 determine the champion. Early matches have produced tight results, including a four-run victory for Boubyan Warriors over Failaka Guardians and a three-run win for Kuwait Falcons against Pearl Strikers, according to tournament results posted on the league website.
This edition represents the continuation of a strategic partnership established in 2025 between DP World ILT20 and the Kuwait Cricket Board to expand opportunities for cricketers across the Gulf, a league announcement stated. The development tournament serves as a pathway for standout performers to enter the main DP World ILT20 player auction scheduled for October 1 in Dubai, where six players from this event are expected to be drafted by the franchises. Previous seasons of the development tournament have produced more than 16,000 runs and 770 wickets while graduating 15 players to the main league and international cricket, DP World ILT20 figures show.
The competition features four teams competing in a high-performance environment designed to prepare emerging talent for franchise-level play. Organizers have made the matches available for live viewing on Cricket Lounge TV to broaden audience reach. The platform builds on the first Kuwait edition held last year and aligns with broader efforts to grow the sport in the region, according to the Kuwait Cricket Board.
Kuwait’s involvement forms part of DP World ILT20 plans that could eventually see main-league matches staged in the country, the Emirates Cricket Board indicated in partnership details released last year. The current tournament runs for just over a week and concludes with the final on September 25 at Sulaibiya Cricket Ground.
