Tajikistan’s ambassador to Kuwait, Khusrav Noziri, underscored the steady development of ties with Kuwait while speaking at a reception for the Central Asian state’s 35th independence anniversary on September 15, 2026. The envoy described Kuwait as holding a special and valued place in Tajikistan’s foreign policy. Noziri said the relationship rests on mutual respect, ongoing political dialogue, trust and partnerships that benefit both sides.
Diplomatic relations were established on March 31, 1995, the ambassador recalled in his address. Weeks after that step, President Emomali Rahmon made the first official visit by a Tajik leader to an Arab country when he traveled to Kuwait. Noziri pointed to Rahmon’s November 2024 visit to Kuwait and meetings with Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a milestone that added fresh impetus to bilateral cooperation and created new prospects across multiple fields.
The recent opening of Kuwait’s embassy in Dushanbe together with the appointment of its first resident ambassador there reflects deep mutual confidence, according to Noziri. This move demonstrates a shared commitment to closer relations between the two peoples. The ambassador stated that the priority now is converting strong political ties into wider and more effective practical and economic cooperation.
Noziri identified trade, investment, infrastructure, agriculture, energy and tourism as sectors offering strong potential for expanded partnership. Tajikistan hopes to host the fifth session of the joint governmental committee for economic, trade, scientific and technical cooperation in Dushanbe to advance concrete projects. Such a meeting would facilitate direct business contacts and turn opportunities into tangible outcomes that serve both countries.
The envoy praised the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development for its contributions to infrastructure and other projects in Tajikistan. Noziri characterized this support as a model of developmental solidarity that embodies Kuwait’s commitment to assisting friendly nations. This collaboration has helped strengthen long-term partnership in priority areas.
Direct air links between Kuwait and Dushanbe have already boosted tourism, commerce, investment flows and cultural exchanges, Noziri noted. He expressed hope that the route would see further development to enhance connectivity in ways that benefit both populations. The ambassador’s remarks came as Tajikistan, which has pursued balanced foreign relations since gaining independence in 1991, continues to build on more than three decades of engagement with Kuwait.
