The statement disclosed that the Kuwaiti government allocated $1 million in 2023 to purchase generators for Ukraine amid attacks on its energy infrastructure and affirmed the continuous need for international support for that sector. Kuwait’s broader contributions include a $2 million humanitarian aid package to Ukraine and neighboring countries delivered in April 2022, according to lists compiled from official records. Shipments of 33.5 tons of aid were sent by Kuwait’s Red Crescent in March 2022 for distribution to those affected, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry website reported. UNICEF welcomed an additional $1.25 million contribution from Kuwait in June 2022 to address humanitarian needs of children impacted by the crisis.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries have featured high-level visits, regular contacts and political consultations in the decades since their establishment. Kuwait’s embassy in Kyiv, which opened in 1995, became the first diplomatic mission from the Gulf region in Ukraine, according to an assessment by the Ukrainian ambassador to Kuwait.
