Virgin Mobile Kuwait announced the launch of its Aman parental control and safety solution, which blocks social media platforms at the network level to create a safer mobile experience for families. The offering, accessible via the company’s app or by dialing 156, automatically restricts TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, X and Facebook on the Virgin Mobile Kuwait network within Kuwait and cannot be bypassed like traditional app-based tools, the company said on its website.
The announcement posted on virginmobile.com.kw describes Aman as a service that operates without any additional apps or setups, making it simpler for parents to enforce limits on their children’s mobile usage. It blocks the selected platforms directly at the carrier level so that new content cannot load, be posted or refreshed even if the apps remain installed on the device. “Aman works at the network level, not through an app, so it cannot be removed or turned off. Selected platforms are blocked automatically,” the company stated. Old cached content may still be visible until manually cleared or automatically deleted by the device, but no new material will become available.
According to the company, Aman blocks access to TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, X and Facebook while preserving all personal data and files on the user’s device. “Aman does not remove files or personal content,” it said, adding that previously saved items might appear but refreshing or interacting with them will not function if blocked. To clear such content, users can navigate to their device settings, select the specific app and choose the clear cache option. The company noted that this approach gives parents peace of mind without eliminating the educational and communicative benefits of mobile phones.
Aman functions exclusively when connected to the Virgin Mobile Kuwait network and offers no protection on Wi-Fi connections, public networks or while roaming outside the country. “No protection is applied when using roaming or any public Wi-Fi network, including home, school or external connections,” the terms and conditions specified. This distinguishes it from many other parental control options that depend on software installed on the phone itself, which users might disable. The announcement highlighted how the network-level implementation ensures consistent enforcement for eligible plans.
The service arrives as calls grow in Kuwait to restrict social media access for under-15s following steps taken in the UAE, a Times Kuwait post on Facebook reported. A PMC-published study from 2023 found that 62.9 percent of surveyed parents agreed with frequent parental monitoring of their children’s social media accounts. The American Psychological Association recommended in 2023 that parents implement time limits, use monitoring tools and maintain ongoing conversations with teens about their online activities to safeguard development. It also suggested employing built-in screen time settings and adjusting guidelines as children get older while encouraging privacy settings to limit personal information exposure.
Customers seeking the Aman offers can learn about specific pricing and subscription options by using the Virgin Mobile Kuwait application or calling the dedicated line at 156, the company indicated. The solution supports family needs by permitting standard phone operations for learning and communication purposes while restricting the targeted social platforms. Families can refer to the full list of questions and answers on the website for additional clarification on how cached content is handled and other operational details.
