More than 21,000 citizens and residents participated in the third edition of Kuwait Sports Day held on Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Bridge on February 14, 2026, where the nation united in celebration of sports, health and community spirit. Minister of State for Youth and Sports Affairs Dr. Tareq Al-Jalahma inaugurated the gathering, which the Kuwait News Agency said aligned with broader efforts to encourage physical activity among all demographics.
According to the Kuwait News Agency, the program offered running, walking and cycling races together with fitness challenges and recreational competitions suited to families and children. Musical performances and entertainment shows created a vibrant atmosphere across the venue. The activities were designed to highlight the importance of an active lifestyle while providing enjoyment for participants of varying ages and abilities. Organizers ensured the event remained accessible and engaging throughout the day.
The Kuwait Sports for All Federation led the organization in collaboration with government and private entities, securing patronage from the political leadership and backing from sports, youth and health authorities. This multi-stakeholder approach facilitated smooth execution and broad outreach. Such partnerships have become characteristic of national sports initiatives in recent years. The event welcomed participants from all walks of life to maximize its community impact.
The event advanced objectives set out in the Public Authority for Sport’s 2022-2028 strategy, which focuses on promoting sports for all and incorporating exercise into daily routines to enhance public health. The strategy was launched in November 2021 by the information minister with additional aims of building new sports facilities and preserving Kuwait’s sporting heritage, Arab Times reported at the time. The authority has since worked with the United Nations Development Programme on institutional strengthening to better deliver community sports programs in alignment with the Kuwait National Development Plan. This collaboration seeks to increase youth engagement and expand sports infrastructure nationwide.
Al-Jalahma commented on the high level of engagement during the event. “The strong turnout reflects the community’s increasing awareness of sports’ role in promoting health and quality of life,” he said. The minister noted that Kuwait Sports Day coincides with the country’s national celebrations, representing social cohesion and solidarity. He extended congratulations to the political leadership on the occasion.
Following his participation, Al-Jalahma stressed ongoing plans for the occasion. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to expanding and diversifying the event each year while encouraging all segments of society to adopt an active lifestyle. The minister praised government bodies, private entities, volunteers and participants alike, stating that teamwork is key to the event’s success. He expressed hope that next year’s edition will prove even more outstanding in meeting the aspirations of Kuwait’s leadership and society.
A special Sports Village established on the bridge added depth to the experience with interactive zones, cafes, restaurants and rest areas for families. A traditional folkloric band performed patriotic songs that integrated national heritage into the sporting festivities. This setup blended physical activity, recreation and cultural elements to deliver a complete community event. The village contributed to making the day both comfortable and memorable for all who attended.
Kuwait Times reported that the second edition of the event in 2025 also drew 21,000 participants. KUNA figures have placed annual participation at this level for both the second and third editions. The Public Authority for Sport continues to use the day to advance its strategic goals.
