Brigadier General Salama Al-Shammari the Director of Joint Operations at the Kuwait Armed Forces met with Brigadier General Omar Khan commander of Pakistan’s Kuwait mission according to a statement from the General Staff. The discussions on September 20 focused on aspects of joint military coordination and developing cooperation in ways that serve the mutual interests of both countries. The meeting occurred under the framework of the joint military defense protocol between Kuwait and Pakistan the General Staff added.
KUNA which circulated the account of the talks noted that the encounter builds directly on recent advancements in bilateral defense ties. The two sides reviewed ways to enhance operational links between their armed forces in line with standing agreements. Such engagements have increased in frequency as the countries move to activate broader cooperation terms.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence said in a statement that the two countries signed the Protocol Agreement-2026 on August 27 in Rawalpindi. Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Saleem Al-Sabah inked the document which extends a 2023 defence co-operation agreement to cover training capacity building border management and additional mutually agreed fields. The pact establishes a framework for improved operational coordination expertise exchange and overall integration between the armed forces.
A joint military committee will oversee implementation through annual meetings to organise training exercises and high-level visits the ministry’s announcement indicated. The agreement takes effect for an initial five-year period with automatic renewal unless terminated. It reflects Pakistan’s wider pattern of expanding structured defense partnerships across the Middle East with similar arrangements already in place with Saudi Arabia and Qatar according to regional diplomatic records.
Kuwait ratified the underlying 2023 agreement in July 2026 via decree-law which the official gazette published at the time. That earlier text addresses military education joint drills intelligence logistics and scientific research in addition to cultural and sports activities between the forces. The General Staff has described these steps as essential for sustaining long-term institutional linkages.
The latest meeting follows a series of high-level visits including one in June by a senior Pakistani operations director that similarly stressed expanding coordination the Kuwait Armed Forces reported. Both nations have maintained defense relations for decades with Pakistani personnel previously involved in various advisory and training roles in Kuwait. Officials from both sides continue to align their efforts on shared regional security priorities through regular dialogue.
