The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kuwait posted a statement on its official X account that dismissed accusations by the Kuwaiti government regarding an Iranian national’s purported role in a scheme targeting personalities or any act threatening national security. In the announcement, the embassy recalled that the person mentioned had not been present in Kuwait during the previous decade. The statement emphasised that levelling such claims against Iranian citizens ran counter to established norms of international conduct.
According to the embassy’s post, the accusations formed part of a repeated pattern of negative handling toward Iran that relied on recycled and unsubstantiated narratives about interference in Kuwaiti matters. The embassy expressed deep regret over this approach, which it said conflicted with the principle of good neighbourliness. It added that pursuing false allegations in this manner violated international laws and risked aggravating tensions across the region.
The statement noted the serious repercussions the area is experiencing from American and Israeli military aggression against Iran. It called on countries in the region to follow responsible and wise policies that avoid escalating imposed divisions affecting the whole area. The embassy urged that any outstanding issues be addressed through proper official channels instead of public assertions.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a comparable rejection in May 2026 after Kuwait alleged that four Iranian personnel had infiltrated Bubiyan Island and clashed with local forces, a position detailed in a statement carried by Kayhan newspaper. That earlier Iranian response described the Kuwaiti claims as utterly baseless, attributed the incident to a navigational malfunction during a routine patrol, and demanded consular access to the detained individuals along with their prompt release. Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had summoned the Iranian ambassador and delivered a formal protest note at the time, according to a report by the Emirates News Agency.
Similar diplomatic friction surfaced in 2015 when Iran’s embassy objected to links drawn between Tehran and a group facing trial in Kuwait on charges of plotting attacks, a development reported by Ahram Online. In that instance the embassy voiced dissatisfaction at the inclusion of Iran’s name in what it termed an internal Kuwaiti affair involving arms and ammunition, while noting it had not received official details on the Iranian defendant. The embassy at the time also criticised what it characterised as a systematic media campaign against bilateral ties based on unproven accusations.
Kuwait has maintained that its security measures respond to identified threats, though specific details on the latest case involving the Iranian citizen remain limited in public announcements from Kuwaiti authorities. The pattern of mutual statements reflects longstanding sensitivities in relations between the two neighbours that have periodically required high-level diplomatic engagement. Both sides have consistently voiced commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity in their respective communications.
