The Directorate General of Civil Aviation reported that Chairman Sheikh Humoud Mubarak Al-Humoud Al-Sabah received UK Ambassador Qudsi Rashid at its headquarters on Wednesday, where officials reviewed opportunities to expand technical and operational collaboration in the sector. Discussions addressed mutual interests in air transport alongside prospects for exchanging expertise that could improve connectivity between the two countries. According to a statement distributed by Kuwait News Agency, both sides highlighted the value of sustained coordination to uphold safety standards and operational efficiency across aviation activities.

Kuwait News Agency reported that the encounter built on longstanding bilateral relations, framing the exchange as part of wider efforts to deepen partnerships in civil aviation. The authority’s account placed the meeting within a series of engagements aimed at aligning regulatory approaches and infrastructure priorities. Such talks have become routine as Kuwait advances modernization initiatives at its main airport and related facilities.

A separate DGCA statement to Kuwait News Agency detailed an earlier meeting this month between Al-Sabah and UK Trade Commissioner Lord Iain McNicol that covered air traffic control training programs along with upgrades to infrastructural and operational services. The discussions also examined ways to expand public-private partnerships tied to strategic developments at Kuwait International Airport. These conversations reflected Kuwait’s interest in applying British practices to local civil aviation projects, the authority noted.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation indicated that the latest round of talks aligned with national goals to incorporate advanced expertise from established aviation markets. In July 2026, UK air navigation provider NATS secured a contract with the DGCA following a competitive process to create a technology roadmap supporting Kuwait Vision 2035. NATS chief executive Martin Rolfe said the agreement would leverage the firms’ experience to enhance capacity, engineering capabilities and airspace modernization efforts.

Cooperation has also progressed at the airline level, with Kuwait Airways concluding an agreement in May with Rolls-Royce to advance engine system capabilities and overall operational performance. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has referenced prior instruments, including a memorandum of understanding signed several years ago that updated rules on air services and incorporated fifth freedom traffic rights. These arrangements have facilitated growth in passenger and cargo volumes on routes linking the two nations.

Directorate General of Civil Aviation data placed passenger traffic at Kuwait International Airport at approximately 15 million in 2025, with UK carriers contributing to long-haul movements. The authority has maintained that targeted expertise partnerships remain central to sustaining this expansion while meeting international regulatory benchmarks. British input has featured in areas ranging from air navigation services to airport development projects.
