The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs launched an electronic service named Teach Me Islam through the government’s unified Sahel application on October 13 to introduce communities to the religion and its teachings. The platform allows non-Muslim sponsored residents along with anyone seeking to explore Islam to file requests that link them to the ministry’s competent department for tailored responses to inquiries. This step leverages modern digital tools to simplify access to da’wah and educational resources for a broad range of users, according to the ministry’s announcement shared on the Sahel platform.

Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohammed Al-Wasmi told Kuwait News Agency that the initiative reflects the ministry’s keenness on harnessing modern technologies to serve the sublime message of Islam while developing da’wah and educational methods. Al-Wasmi explained that the service delivers religious knowledge in an accessible and effective manner to various segments of society. He added that the ministry focuses on initiatives to spread awareness of Islamic teachings and their emphasis on tolerance and moderation.

Al-Wasmi further noted that the project underscores values of mercy, tolerance, moderation and the centrist approach while making use of government platforms to widen the pool of beneficiaries from such services. The feature specifically targets expatriate groups and individuals who wish to learn about the faith through convenient electronic channels that align with technological advancements. The ministry’s specialized teams stand ready to address all submissions received via the app.

The Sahel application operates as the primary unified portal for electronic government services across Kuwait. Its English version became available in 2024 to support non-Arabic speakers among the resident population. Integration of the Teach Me Islam service into this existing infrastructure eliminates the need for separate logins or downloads for users seeking religious information.

Public Authority for Civil Information figures place Kuwait’s expatriate population at roughly 3.3 million, accounting for more than two-thirds of all residents in the country. This demographic reality amplifies the potential reach of the new service among sponsored non-Muslims and other interested parties who may encounter it through routine government app interactions. The ministry’s move fits within its pattern of updating outreach methods to match contemporary communication preferences.

This latest addition builds directly on the ministry’s continued efforts to refine da’wah tools and expand community engagement through digital means. By embedding the function within a widely adopted government application, the initiative reduces procedural hurdles for those pursuing knowledge about Islamic principles. Responses to user requests will come from the ministry’s designated experts handling such educational and introductory matters.
