The Kuwait News Agency reported that Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, representing Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York. At the outset of the meeting the Crown Prince conveyed the Amir’s greetings while affirming Kuwait’s support for the important and pivotal role played by the United Nations and all its various agencies and programs. He expressed appreciation for the Secretary-General’s efforts in developing the organization’s work as the two sides reviewed main themes of the session that coincides with the UN’s 80th anniversary and draws participation from leaders and heads of state and government.
According to the agency the Crown Prince congratulated Guterres on the anniversary describing it as a pivotal moment for renewing the international community’s commitment to reforming the United Nations and developing its working mechanisms. This process would enhance the organization’s role in confronting multiple challenges while contributing to consolidated international peace and security along with sustainable development for all peoples of the world. The discussions also addressed high-level meetings in the session particularly the conference on the two-state solution for Palestine co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France with both sides underlining the importance of advancing steps toward recognition of Palestine as a full UN member by major powers.
Guterres praised the historic and effective role of the State of Kuwait in supporting the organization’s activities and initiatives aimed at achieving international peace and security while promoting sustainable development efforts the agency added. The UN chief’s remarks align with Kuwait’s longstanding partnership with the world body that dates to its founding era and has included active participation in multilateral initiatives. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs at the Amiri Diwan Mazen Issa Al-Issa and Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Tariq Mohammad Al-Bannai along with other members of the official delegation. Their presence reflected the priority Kuwait assigns to its relationship with the United Nations at a time when the organization navigates complex global dynamics. KUNA noted that the talks formed part of Kuwait’s broader participation in the 80th session events.
Kuwait has maintained a record of substantial contributions to UN programs over decades according to assessments from the organization’s own records.
