Al-Seyassah daily reported that the Kuwait Society of Engineers has restructured its Engineers Qualification and Classification Council for the 2026/2027 term in a step intended to reinforce the qualification and classification system while advancing digital services. Society President Eng. Mohammed Al-Subaie highlighted the importance of drawing in Kuwaiti engineering talent from multiple sectors to boost council effectiveness and elevate the profession overall. The initiative aligns with broader national efforts to depend on local expertise for development projects.

The new council brings together senior figures from government ministries, academic institutions and professional associations. Eng. Rashid Al-Enezi, appointed as chairman, voiced gratitude for the board’s trust and pledged ongoing work to evolve accreditation mechanisms in support of state plans that prioritize national cadres. Membership includes Vice Chairman Rashoud Al-Azmi, Dr. Adel Malallah as dean of Kuwait University’s College of Engineering and Petroleum, and representatives from the ministries of public works, communications, electricity, water and renewable energy as well as the Kuwait Municipality, Public Authority for Housing Welfare, Environment Public Authority and the Kuwait Union of Engineering Offices and Consulting Firms.

Council leaders have already endorsed a working plan that establishes a dedicated traffic studies committee to match the growth in infrastructure, road and transportation initiatives. Officials also approved development of a full electronic platform to streamline all qualification and classification transactions. These measures form part of the society’s wider push toward digital transformation of its operations.

The society has pledged closer coordination with government bodies to broaden accreditation coverage for engineers engaged on public projects and throughout the labor market. Such expansion is viewed as essential for maintaining quality across large-scale state contracts. ME Construction News noted earlier this year that Kuwait is progressing with substantial airport and infrastructure expansions under the 2026-2027 budget, increasing demand for certified engineering professionals.

Eng. Al-Enezi underscored that the reconstituted panel will foster greater collaboration among stakeholders and help refine the classification framework to meet current market needs. The inclusion of acting undersecretaries and specialized directors ensures direct links to policy-making entities. This structure is expected to accelerate decision-making on engineer approvals for critical national programs.

Kuwait’s development vision has repeatedly stressed the role of qualified local engineers in delivering strategic objectives across multiple sectors. Central Statistical Bureau data has previously shown steady growth in the national engineering workforce, underscoring the need for robust oversight mechanisms. The latest council reforms build on that foundation by integrating digital tools and targeted technical committees.
