The Kuwait Meteorological Department’s latest 48-hour forecast for Saturday described hot and partly cloudy weather with high humidity especially along coastal areas, where light to moderate southeasterly winds blowing at 8 to 38 kilometres per hour could bring scattered rain that turns thundery at times. A fog watch issued by the department at 23:00 local time on October 3 highlighted the risk of reduced horizontal visibility overnight, coinciding with the humid air mass. Department data placed the expected maximum temperature at 40 degrees Celsius while sea conditions were forecast to remain slight to moderate with waves between 1 and 5 feet.

Sunday’s outlook from the same department indicated continued hot and relatively humid conditions particularly over coastal zones, with light to moderate northeasterly winds at 8 to 35 kilometres per hour and scattered clouds that could produce isolated light rain. Night-time temperatures were expected to drop to a milder range while humidity remained elevated, according to the official forecast published on the department’s website. The assessment found that variable winds overnight could foster additional fog patches in some areas, maintaining the visibility warning through the early hours.

Acting Director of the Meteorological Department Dharar Al-Ali told Kuwait News Agency that weather maps and numerical models showed the country coming under the influence of an extended low-pressure system combined with an upper-level trough, which has driven the increase in cloud cover and moisture since late September. Al-Ali noted that this pattern has sustained humidity levels that frequently approach saturation near the coast, raising the likelihood of both precipitation and fog formation. The director’s briefing emphasised that such transitional autumn conditions have become more pronounced in early October in recent years.

Prior forecasts from the department in late September had already projected a steady rise in humidity across Kuwait, with readings potentially climbing to 75 percent or higher in coastal districts as October began, according to meteorologist Fahd Al-Otaibi who spoke to local media at the time. These elevated moisture levels have aligned with the current low-pressure extension to produce the scattered rain and fog risks now in effect. Central Statistical Bureau historical weather records for the period show that October typically marks the shift toward more humid and unsettled patterns before winter sets in fully.

The department’s sea-state bulletin for the period warned of waves that could reach up to 6 feet at times under active wind periods, advising mariners to monitor updates closely through the official application and social media channels. Visibility reductions from fog have already been observed in some inland areas overnight, the latest observations indicated. Al-Ali urged residents to consult the Meteorological Center’s website for real-time adjustments as the low-pressure system evolves.

Kuwait’s expatriate population of roughly 3.3 million, as placed by Public Authority for Civil Information figures, stands to be affected by any transport disruptions linked to poor visibility or sudden showers during the weekend. The authority’s data underscores the scale of daily commuting that could face delays in such weather. Department advisories have consistently recommended limiting non-essential travel during fog events to maintain public safety.
