Ace Hardware’s new Shuwaikh store joins a growing specialist cluster where convenience, assortment and digital retail are reinforcing one another.
A single street in Shuwaikh is beginning to look like a retail category in its own right. Ace Hardware opened its new location there on 5 September, directly opposite Bin Nisf and along the same corridor as True Value and JAS. The significance of the new Ace Hardware location is therefore larger than one store opening: Kuwait has assembled several well-known hardware and home-improvement names within one highly recognisable shopping zone.
For customers working on a home, workshop, garden or DIY project, that concentration makes the purchasing trip easier. Hardware shopping often involves exact dimensions, compatible fittings, colour choices and tools selected for a particular job. Putting several specialists in one district creates a deep collective assortment and gives Shuwaikh the characteristics of a destination market rather than a collection of individual outlets.
A cluster built around convenience
The foundations were already visible before Ace arrived. Bin Nisf moved into a substantially expanded building in June 2025, with 2:48AM describing Ace and Bin Nisf together as covering an unusually broad range of DIY needs in Kuwait. Ace’s arrival across the street strengthens that concentration further, while True Value and JAS add additional breadth to the same journey.
This is one of the useful features of specialist retail clustering. Each operator keeps its own assortment, brands and customer relationship, while the district gives shoppers an additional reason to make the trip. Shuwaikh already has a long commercial identity built around specialist purchasing, trade and project-driven visits. Hardware and home improvement fit naturally into that pattern.
There is one analytical qualification. Co-location alone does not create a destination district; stores still need sufficient assortment, service and brand recognition to make the combined trip worthwhile. The mix now assembled in Shuwaikh gives the area unusually strong ingredients for precisely that model.
The store and the screen grow together
Kuwait’s payments data also shows why the new physical cluster should not be read as an alternative to e-commerce. In July 2026, card transactions inside Kuwait reached about KD1.48 billion at points of sale and KD1.31 billion through payment gateways, according to Central Bank of Kuwait data. Both channels are operating at significant scale, supporting a retail model in which digital discovery and physical shopping increasingly sit inside the same customer journey.
Ace Kuwait is already structured that way. Its Ace Rewards programme links purchases to a digital membership, while qualifying online orders above KD10 receive free delivery from the store. The website and app add search and ordering convenience, while physical locations provide the immediate product access that remains particularly valuable in project-led categories.
The wider Ace network is seeing the same combination work at scale. In its first-quarter 2026 results, Ace Hardware Corporation reported record quarterly revenue of $2.5 billion, up 10.9 percent year on year, while digital sales increased 30 percent. On 13 May, CEO John Venhuizen said: “Our record first quarter results reflect a simple truth: when we serve our neighbors with excellence and urgency, growth follows.”
A Kuwaiti retail story with long roots
Ace also comes to Shuwaikh with an established local operating history. Alhasawi Group says it entered retail in 1991 with international brands including Ace Hardware, while the group itself traces its origins to a repair and installation business founded in Kuwait by Abdulkarim AlHasawi in 1962. The combination gives the brand both a global supply network and more than three decades of local retail experience. Alhasawi’s retail division describes its strategy around recognised brands, product quality and customer service.
That makes the Shuwaikh opening a useful marker of how Kuwait’s specialist retail landscape is developing. A recognised hardware corridor, strong digital-payment adoption and an established local operator are converging in one place. The result is not merely another address for Ace. It is a stronger destination for anyone in Kuwait starting a project and wanting the tools, materials and home-improvement choices within easy reach.
