Indicators compiled by the ministry showed that the grid maintained stability despite the impact of Iranian strikes on several power plants earlier in the season. The assessment identified four key elements that contributed to this outcome as summer draws to a close.
According to the ministry, the National Committee for Energy and Water Conservation, working alongside the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Endowments and the industrial sector, conducted campaigns to encourage reduced consumption during peak hours. The activation of the Gulf electricity interconnection helped stabilize the grid amid higher usage between June and September. Scheduled maintenance on electricity and water production units was finalized on time before the season, allowing them to operate at full capacity.
Technical emergency teams stood ready to address any power cuts across different areas, accelerating repair work and utilizing backup generators when needed, the ministry added. These coordinated actions enabled the grid to avoid major disruptions even as temperatures climbed above 50 degrees Celsius, a period when air conditioning typically represents the bulk of power usage. The efforts built on lessons from previous summers, including 2024 when capacity shortfalls had led to scheduled outages.
Iran carried out strikes on Kuwaiti power and desalination infrastructure starting in mid-July, damaging key sites such as the Al-Zour complex and prompting precautionary measures to protect the system. A report on the incidents noted that the attacks hit integrated facilities where power generation and water production are linked, complicating recovery while demand for both resources spiked in the heat. The Ministry of Electricity isolated affected units, contained fires and began restoration while calling for conservation to support grid balance.
In response to the attacks, residents heeded appeals to limit air conditioning and other electricity use, helping bring consumption under projected figures during the most critical weeks, according to statements from ministry officials in July. This public participation, combined with regional power sharing through the Gulf link, proved instrumental in preventing widespread blackouts. The undersecretary had earlier affirmed that preparatory plans were adjusted to account for the limited impact on maintenance schedules.
As the summer season ends, the ministry’s data confirms the positive indicators held throughout the challenging period, with emergency responses ensuring quick recovery in affected zones. The experience highlighted the importance of maintenance readiness and conservation awareness in maintaining service continuity for the country’s population. Officials continue to oversee repairs at the damaged plants to restore full operational levels.
