Skytrax announced its World Airline Awards for 2026 at a gala ceremony in London, crowning Singapore Airlines as the top carrier for the sixth time in the survey of more than 325 airlines. The Singapore flag carrier also collected honours for World’s Best Economy Class and Best Airline in Asia. Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted said in a press release, “We congratulate Singapore Airlines on this major achievement of being named the World’s Best Airline 2026 which highlights the level of product and service excellence they are providing to customers.”
Qatar Airways finished second overall after leading the ranking for the previous two years, according to Skytrax data, and it retained the title for World’s Best Business Class while winning the new award for World’s Best Onboard Wi-Fi. Cathay Pacific Airways placed third and took home World’s Best Cabin Crew, with ANA All Nippon Airways ranking fourth and Turkish Airlines fifth. Emirates secured sixth place in the assessment that draws on passenger feedback regarding service quality, cabin comfort and operational reliability.
Middle Eastern carriers continued to perform strongly in the 2026 list published by Skytrax, with Saudia landing in 15th position and Etihad Airways at 22nd. The results reflect sustained competition across the Gulf aviation sector where several operators have invested in fleet upgrades and enhanced passenger experiences over the past decade. Skytrax has run the World Airline Awards since 1999, positioning them as a key industry benchmark based on independent traveller surveys.
Kuwait Airways did not appear in the top 100 airlines named for 2026, repeating its exclusion from recent editions of the Skytrax ranking. The carrier has pursued fleet modernisation programmes and service enhancements in recent years to address customer expectations in a competitive regional market. Historical Skytrax assessments have similarly omitted the airline from upper tiers while highlighting stronger showings from peers such as Qatar Airways and Emirates.
Additional category winners in the Skytrax announcement included Hainan Airlines for cleanest amenities, AirAsia for World’s Best Low-Cost Airline and Scoot for World’s Best Long Haul Low-Cost Airline. Bangkok Airways claimed the award for World’s Best Regional Airline. These specialised recognitions form part of the broader evaluation that covers full-service, budget and niche operators across global routes.
The 2026 awards arrive as airlines adapt to rising passenger demand for seamless connectivity and premium amenities, a trend Skytrax has tracked through evolving survey criteria.
