According to an incident report from the Farwaniya traffic department, a Bangladeshi bus driver born in 1976 died after he exited his vehicle to inspect its rear while the buses stood one behind the other in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. The second bus, driven by an Indian national born in 1981, moved backward without apparent warning and trapped the victim between the two vehicles. He sustained fatal injuries at the scene. Police registered a formal case based on the department’s findings and referred the matter to the relevant authorities for full investigation and any necessary legal steps.

The department’s account described the episode as occurring during what seemed to be a routine check of the front bus in a busy expatriate-heavy district known for its public transport operations. No immediate indications of mechanical defects or intentional actions appeared in the initial report. The sequence left little time for intervention before the fatal pinning took place.

Kuwait’s General Traffic Department recorded 22,012 traffic accidents between January 1 and June 30 of 2026. Official tallies have long placed the country’s daily accident count between 200 and 300, many of them involving commercial buses and vans operated by expatriate drivers. A 2022 study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that non-Kuwaitis suffer road traffic fatalities at four times the rate of Kuwaiti nationals.

The Ministry of Interior has pursued enforcement campaigns in recent years that reduced certain violations, including speeding offenses by 65 percent in some periods according to ministry data. Professional drivers in the transport sector, who undergo mandatory licensing, still feature regularly in accident statistics compiled by traffic authorities. The current case will form part of the ministry’s ongoing compilation of collision data for the year.

Expatriate workers from Bangladesh and India constitute a significant share of Kuwait’s bus driver workforce, handling routes that require frequent vehicle inspections under operational schedules. Past traffic department reports have noted reversing maneuvers and improper parking as recurring elements in similar low-speed but high-consequence incidents. Embassy officials typically assist families in such cases while investigations proceed through local legal channels.

Investigators from the Farwaniya traffic department will assess all available evidence, including witness statements and vehicle conditions, before concluding their probe. The Indian driver of the rear bus remained available to authorities following the collision. Results of the inquiry will determine any further actions under Kuwaiti traffic regulations.
