The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition conducted an inspection campaign in Hawally Governorate that led to the seizure and destruction of 166 kilograms of meat unfit for human consumption. The authority’s inspection team identified the products as contaminated and non-compliant with established health standards during checks on local shelves and storage areas. Officials issued violation reports to the businesses involved and took steps to prevent further distribution of the unsafe items.

According to the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition the meat had undergone changes in its natural characteristics including color and odor that indicated spoilage. Some of the confiscated items were also of unknown origin and lacked required labeling or registration. The authority applied licensing regulations under relevant ministerial decisions to close non-compliant facilities until corrections are made. Bader Al-Saffar a food inspector in the governorate detailed the types of products destroyed in similar operations.

The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has carried out comparable campaigns across other governorates with significant results. In Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate during March and April the authority inspected 192 establishments and destroyed 36,500 kilograms of unfit food according to its own figures. These actions form part of a sustained effort to address recurring issues with adulterated and spoiled products in the local market.

Adel Awad the shift officer at the authority’s emergency center in Hawally reported that violations often involve unauthorized spaces and the sale of adulterated food of unknown origin. The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition emphasized that such practices compromise public hygiene and consumer safety. Owners of affected establishments must contact the authority to resolve the issues and obtain approval for reopening. The authority maintains a hotline for residents to report concerns about food products.

In a related campaign the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition seized 96 kilograms of adulterated meat in Hawally during August and issued 11 violation reports for hygiene and health certificate failures. The authority has stated that it will continue intensifying such inspections throughout Kuwait’s governorates. This approach aims to ensure that only safe food products reach consumers in areas like Hawally.

The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition coordinates with the Ministry of Interior during these operations to enforce compliance effectively. Data from the authority indicates that meat products represent a frequent focus due to their potential for quick deterioration when standards are not followed. Residents are encouraged to source meat from verified vendors and inspect it for freshness before purchase.
