The Ministry of Education continues preparations for the 2026-2027 academic year by directing the Supplies and Warehouses Department to furnish 161 schools across various educational zones with required furniture based on submitted needs assessments and approved distribution plans. The initiative forms part of a wider effort to ensure all schools have necessary educational and logistical support in line with directives from Minister of Education Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabaei. This step addresses actual requirements at each institution to create suitable learning conditions for students and teachers.
The plan supplies more than 15,000 pieces of student furniture tailored to different educational stages including specially designed chairs for kindergartens and sets appropriate for primary intermediate and secondary levels. It also incorporates improved desks that can be configured and rearranged to support varied educational activities while fully outfitting five new schools including two dedicated to gifted students. The ministry stated that these distributions optimize resources according to each school’s specific priorities and requirements.
New furniture designs emphasize flexible practical arrangements that allow desks to form configurations for individual group and collaborative learning to boost student interaction and participation. Specifications for the pieces account for comfort safety and daily usability in line with modern education standards. The ministry described the furniture upgrade as a central element in its overall readiness strategy for the coming academic year.
Firas Kartash the director of the Supplies and Warehouses Department confirmed that his team is working to complete equipping of both new and existing schools with all required student and institutional furniture per the approved timetable. The ministry’s statement issued on August 25 and reported the following day underscored that these actions aim to enhance school environments and align with contemporary teaching needs. Officials indicated that the process remains ongoing to meet targets before the school year commences.
Earlier ministry announcements detailed plans to open five new schools for the 2026-2027 year including two kindergartens in Al-Mutlaa City a girls secondary school in West Abdullah Al-Mubarak and two institutions for gifted students aligning with the current furnishing drive. A separate July statement from the ministry reported that 10 specialized engineering teams comprising around 100 engineers had been assigned to maintenance and renovation work at 949 public schools with completion targeted by the end of August. These parallel efforts reflect coordinated administrative financial and technical measures across educational districts.
Ministry figures from the prior academic year placed total student enrollment in public and private schools at more than 520,000 supported by over 130,000 teachers and administrators according to previous official briefings. The new academic calendar sets September 6 as the start date for teaching and administrative staff with students returning on September 13 while the first semester runs 14 weeks for kindergarten 15 weeks for primary and 13 weeks each for intermediate and secondary levels. The Department of Educational Research and Curricula has circulated approved study plans to all relevant institutions to facilitate final preparations.
