The Embassy of India in Kuwait, in association with ARMS4U, organised a tree plantation event at Rawda Park as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, the embassy announced in a post on the social media platform X. The activity also served to commemorate 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Kuwait, celebrating their enduring friendship and mutual commitment to sustainability. Diplomats, distinguished members of the Kuwaiti and Indian communities, school children and media joined the event.
The campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day on June 5, 2024. It encourages planting trees in the name of one’s mother to blend environmental action with personal tribute. The initiative has gained traction in Kuwait through several embassy-led events over the past two years.
India was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Kuwait following its independence in 1961, according to the Embassy of India’s official records on bilateral ties. The Indian rupee was legal tender in Kuwait until that year, pointing to longstanding economic connections. The partnership was upgraded to strategic status during Prime Minister Modi’s official visit to Kuwait in December 2024, which also saw the signing of multiple agreements in defence, culture and sports.
Similar tree-planting drives have been held in locations including Abraj Park in September 2026 and Salmiya Park in April 2026, often in partnership with local communities and organizations. These events typically feature participation from a wide cross-section of the Indian diaspora and Kuwaiti officials. The focus remains on promoting greener spaces and environmental responsibility in Kuwait.
The latest initiative at Rawda Park aligns with the embassy’s ongoing efforts to foster community engagement on sustainability issues. It highlights how diplomatic milestones can be observed through collaborative, forward-looking activities that benefit the environment. School children’s involvement helps instill values of conservation in the next generation of residents.
Kuwait’s vibrant Indian community has consistently supported such campaigns, contributing to their success and visibility. The embassy has worked with various partners, including ARMS4U for this particular drive, to maximize outreach. The 65-year milestone provides an opportunity to reflect on the depth of bilateral relations that extend beyond government-to-government contacts to encompass people-to-people bonds.
