Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi has described empowering Kuwaitis as the main pillar in hi-tech health care while opening the 7th Medical Laboratory Conference themed around developments in diagnostic hematology and precision medicine. Al-Awadhi stressed that investment in both human resources and health technology forms the foundation of the ministry’s strategic plan, with facilities now equipped with modern equipment that requires skilled operators to reduce waste and enhance governance. The minister highlighted how robotic surgeries have transformed patient outcomes by enabling minimal incisions and discharges within 24 hours, cutting complications while accelerating recovery. A parallel digital shift includes deployment of a smart fingerprint attendance system for more than 70,000 employees that has replaced outdated processes and improved administrative efficiency.

Since the start of 2025 Kuwait’s hematology laboratories have processed more than 7.6 million tests on over 3.1 million samples from public hospitals and specialized centers in addition to 712,000 tests at primary healthcare facilities, according to a Ministry of Health assessment. The ministry’s data places the sample rejection rate at just 0.38 percent following adoption of advanced technical systems that have minimized human error. Sixty-seven specialized physicians, 13 of them consultants, have introduced quantitative sickle cell anemia testing, chromogenic factor VIII assays and precise genetic testing that support the shift toward personalized medicine. These results reflect sustained leadership backing for laboratory innovation that aligns with international performance standards.

Al-Awadhi outlined a roadmap extending through 2028 that places equal weight on health technology and human capital development, Times Kuwait reported. The strategy builds on recent openings of advanced facilities while prioritizing training so that citizens can manage sophisticated devices, reduce unnecessary spending and elevate service quality. Such measures form part of a wider digital transformation that extends beyond clinical care into streamlined operations across the health sector.

Regional digital innovation has accelerated healthcare progress across the GCC where expenditure is forecast to reach $135.5 billion by 2027, a World Economic Forum assessment found. Kuwait has trialed artificial intelligence at Jaber Hospital for surgeries, endoscopy, blood-flow imaging and robotic procedures in general surgery, urology as well as obstetrics and gynecology. The Ministry of Health chaired a Gulf workshop on innovation and artificial intelligence in healthcare that explored predictive, personalized and participatory tools while strengthening cross-border cooperation. Experts at the Dasman Diabetes Institute have applied AI to protein structure prediction and drug discovery that could accelerate targeted therapies.

Training initiatives for medical and technical staff have become central to sustaining these advances, with programs designed to equip Kuwaiti professionals to lead implementation of new systems. The ministry has linked 23 electronic health services to the Sahel government platform, enabling more than 338,000 users in the first half of 2025 to access laboratory results, medical reports and appointment bookings without physical visits. Partnerships with technology providers are expanding the use of wearable devices and secure data platforms, particularly for chronic disease management. These steps reinforce the emphasis on national workforce development as the foundation for long-term sector resilience.
