The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition reported that its inspectors working with the Ministry of Interior’s Capital Governorate Security Directorate identified several serious violations during a targeted campaign at a food establishment. Among the infractions were the sale of spoiled and non-compliant food items as well as the thawing of frozen meat that was then presented to consumers as fresh product. Additional breaches involved failures to maintain general hygiene standards together with missing licenses and absent health certificates for employees.

According to the authority the campaign produced 10 violation reports that triggered the immediate closure of the facility to halt further distribution of unsafe goods. Officials ordered the destruction of 134.116 kilograms of the seized non-compliant food under supervised conditions to remove it from circulation entirely. The action reflects the authority’s continuing regulatory efforts across all governorates to uphold food safety requirements.

The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has recorded comparable results from inspections conducted in recent weeks in other areas. In Hawally Governorate one operation led to the destruction of 96 kilograms of adulterated and source-unknown meat along with 11 violation reports tied to hygiene and certification shortfalls. A separate drive in the Jleeb Market area resulted in the elimination of roughly 100 kilograms of meat of unknown origin and four citations according to authority statements.

Earlier campaigns demonstrate the scope of oversight activities with one two-month effort in Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate during March and April producing the destruction of more than 36,500 kilograms of unfit food after visits to 192 establishments. Figures from 2023 for a single governorate alone included 690 violation reports and the closure of 63 food facilities for issues ranging from unlicensed operations to hygiene failures and uncertified workers. The authority has stressed that these repeated drives aim to strengthen compliance throughout the food sector.

Inspection teams from the authority routinely cover markets restaurants warehouses and production units to confirm adherence to approved health and technical regulations. Dr Saud Al-Jalal who directs inspection and control affairs has detailed how such tours routinely detect problems with storage practices and worker documentation. The authority maintains official channels for consumers to report any suspected violations they encounter.

In the latest Capital Governorate case the joint team verified that all confiscated materials underwent proper disposal following established protocols. The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition coordinates regularly with partner agencies to extend the coverage of its monitoring programs. Such measures form part of broader initiatives to safeguard public health through consistent enforcement of food safety standards.
