The Public Authority for Housing Welfare issued notifications through the Sahel application directing the 509 plot owners in East Taima to vacate by the September 1 deadline as leases face termination. The authority acted under Decree Law No. 83 of 2025, which repealed Article 29-bis of the Housing Welfare Law. That repeal took effect in July 2025 following its publication in the Kuwait Al-Youm official gazette, according to the PAHW announcement.

Project records from the East Taima housing development indicate the 509 houses were constructed on a 373,000-square-metre site at a total cost of 47.2 million Kuwaiti dinars to serve approximately 4,500 residents. The Arab Contractors, the firm responsible for the build, detailed that each unit measures 300 square metres with an overall building area of 425 square metres across two floors. Infrastructure delivered under the project included road networks, utilities, parking areas, a mosque, an imam residence, retail shops and nine power stations.

The housing authority said requests for accommodation have reached 105,000 and are rising at 3 percent annually, with demand seen at 197,000 by 2035. Reuters reported in September 2025 that Kuwait opened bidding for construction of three new cities to ease a housing crunch affecting citizens, where the waiting list stands at around 100,000 people. These pressures have intensified efforts to reorganise existing allocations and expand supply across governorates including Jahra, where East Taima is located.

Similar steps occurred in September 2024 when the Public Authority for Housing Welfare terminated contracts for 686 rented public houses in Sulaibiya and Taima at the request of the Interior Ministry, Kuwait News Agency reported at the time. Tenants received instructions to vacate starting that September, after which the authority approved consulting tenders for 3,345 replacement houses in the Salmi area. The 2024 actions formed part of ongoing reviews of government-owned properties and lease arrangements.

The Sahel platform has enabled direct digital delivery of the latest notices to affected owners, streamlining what officials describe as necessary adjustments to housing policy. Public Authority for Housing Welfare data underscore that sustained demand growth requires continuous alignment of legal frameworks with available stock. No immediate details on relocation support or alternative allocations for the East Taima cases appeared in the current notification.
