The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition carried out the campaign in coordination with other government bodies according to its statement released Wednesday. Inspectors examined outlets in one of the country’s busy commercial zones identifying multiple categories of non-compliance that pose risks to consumers. The operation reflects the authority’s systematic approach to monitoring food safety across Kuwait’s governorates.

The authority’s tally listed violations for selling food unfit for human consumption along with cases of operating without valid licenses and failing to meet required health and general hygiene standards. Additional breaches involved handling or trading food products in the absence of mandatory health certificates from approved medical sources. All 16 cases emerged from the review of the 35 establishments visited during the tour.

This latest action follows a string of similar enforcement drives by the authority in recent weeks. In mid-August an inspection in Jahra Governorate led to the confiscation of around 180 kilograms of spoiled meat and animal products the closure of five food businesses and the issuance of 40 citations according to a statement from the authority. The Jahra teams noted changes in color appearance and smell of the meat along with evidence that official seals had been removed.

On August 23 the Hawally Governorate Inspection Department recorded 23 violations during its own campaign the authority reported. Those infractions featured food handlers lacking health certificates a worker with visible wounds expired licenses and the use of spaces beyond approved boundaries. The authority took regulatory measures against the offending sites in line with established procedures.

The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has maintained a high tempo of field inspections throughout 2026 to address recurring issues in the food service sector. Campaigns have targeted warehouses factories and retail outlets in multiple regions resulting in product destructions and temporary closures where serious breaches were confirmed. Officials have repeatedly highlighted the role of these activities in upholding standards and minimizing public health risks from contaminated or substandard supplies.

Coordination with other entities remains central to the authority’s strategy allowing for more comprehensive coverage during each operation. The Qurain effort aligned with this model by drawing on support from competent agencies to verify compliance on site. Further tours are planned as the authority seeks consistent application of food safety rules nationwide.
