The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has issued an advisory regarding scheduled maintenance work on secondary substations that is producing temporary power outages in selected parts of Hawally and Mubarak Al-Kabeer. Consumers can determine whether their locations are affected by visiting the ministry’s official maintenance portal and using the “Am I Affected?” feature with a PACI number or property location on the interactive map. The ministry directed residents facing electricity faults or emergencies to contact its hotline on 152 for immediate assistance.

According to the ministry’s published schedule, outages began at 1:00 am on April 5 and are continuing through April 11 with each interruption lasting four hours in listed blocks. Affected sections in Mubarak Al-Kabeer included Blocks 7 and 1 on the first day while Hawally’s Block 9 appeared later in the week among dozens of other locations across six governorates. The maintenance forms part of broader efforts to support national grid stability ahead of peak summer electricity demand.

Ministry figures show that such precautionary outages have increased in frequency as Kuwait’s electricity consumption rises sharply during warmer months when air-conditioning loads strain the system. A similar series of maintenance-related cuts occurred in April 2025 across the same governorates due to high consumption and generation unit servicing, according to notices compiled by Kuwait Local News from ministry statements. Emergency crews remain on standby to restore service promptly if unplanned faults develop during the work.

The ministry has urged the public to conserve electricity during peak hours from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and to follow all guidelines issued through its portal and social media channels. Officials stated that the interruptions are kept to the minimum necessary to prepare infrastructure for sustained high loads without risking wider disruptions. All scheduled cuts are managed to conclude within the announced four-hour window.

Earlier comparable incidents such as the June 2024 feeder failure that briefly affected Hawally and Al-Shaab were resolved within hours after teams restored the affected substations, the ministry reported at the time. The authority continues to expand its digital tools for real-time outage notifications as part of ongoing improvements to public communication. These measures have limited the overall impact on households, businesses and critical services in the governorates.
