The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has scheduled maintenance on part of the water distribution network for Wednesday evening, which will lead to lower water flow in three residential districts. According to the ministry, technicians will begin work on Al-Ghous Street at 8 p.m. on July 8 and continue for eight hours, during which supply may be reduced in Riqqa, Fahad Al-Ahmad and Sabahiya. The ministry has advised residents in the affected zones to prepare for possible pressure drops and has recommended contacting the emergency number 152 for any service problems that arise during the operation.
A ministry statement emphasised that the work forms part of routine upgrades aimed at improving overall network reliability across the country. The ministry has issued similar maintenance notices at regular intervals throughout 2026, including operations in April and May that targeted water filling stations in other locations. Such scheduled interventions allow crews to address infrastructure needs while minimising widespread disruption to daily water access.
Kuwait faces structural water scarcity that requires careful management of both supply and demand. A report from Fanack Water projects that the country’s freshwater demand could grow by 6 percent annually through 2030, increasing pressure on existing systems. Al Jazeera reported in March 2026 that Kuwait produced 0.8 billion cubic metres of desalinated water in 2023, meeting 47 percent of national annual water use while groundwater and other sources cover the remainder.

The ministry’s water network monitoring centre plays a central role in coordinating these maintenance activities and responding to operational issues. Kuwait Times reported in March 2026 that the minister had reviewed the centre’s performance, underscoring its importance in maintaining system stability during peak demand periods. Regular upkeep of the distribution network helps safeguard the infrastructure that delivers water from major desalination plants to households and businesses.
Residents of the three districts can expect normal supply levels to return after the maintenance window closes, according to the ministry’s planning. The eight-hour timeframe has been selected to complete necessary repairs on the targeted pipeline section efficiently.
